In his address, the PS-MoWSI reiterated that water is life and a basic need that also supports livelihoods. The PS noted that a comprehensive infrastructural programme that involves provision of sustainable water for irrigation & domestic use will offer priority to agribusiness to flourish in Murang’a County thus supporting sustainable livelihoods, food security as well as creating employment. The PS noted that the government has prioritized the Murang’a County in terms of implementing water projects since it is a key contributor of water to other counties including Nairobi. He was also happy to note that over and above supplying water to the school and nearby community members through a water kiosk, the borehole was supplying water to 45 households that were connected to it.

The borehole was drilled with support from UTaNRMP which included drilling (depth of 230m achieving a 12m3 discharge rate), construction of a students’ handwashing station, construction of a water tower with 20,000litres capacity. The borehole serves a school population of 662 school and the local community. A total of 45 households have been connected with piped water from the borehole.
